Taipei, Dec. 6, 2010 (CENS)--Taiwan exported US$2.097 billion of machine tools in the first three quarters of this year, for an annual growth of 65.5%, according to customs-cleared statistics compiled by the Taiwan Machine Tool Foundation (TMTF).
Exports for metal-cutting machine tools totaled US$1.633 billion, up 69.6%; that for metal-forming machine tools came to US$464.15 million, up 52.6%; that for machining centers came to US$640.315 million, up 881.9%.
China and Hong Kong led as the biggest export outlet by absorbing US$993.46 million of Taiwan-made machine tools in the first three quarters, up 110.9% year-on-year for 47.4% of the total exports. The U.S. followed with US$106.2 million, up 4.9% and accounting for 5.1%. India was third with US$87.73 million, up 117.9% and commanding 4.2%.
The TMTF`s tallies also show Taiwan imported US$506.43 million of machine tools in the first three quarters, up 109.5% year-on-year. Imports for metal-cutting machine tools amounted to US$403.36 million, up 111.8% year-on-year and that for metal-forming machine tools came to US$103.07 million, up 100.8%.
Japan led as the biggest supplier by selling US$303.26 million of machine tools to Taiwan in the first three quarters, up 170.7% year-on-year and accounting for 59.9% of the total imports. Germany followed with US$45.37 million, up 29.9% and commanding 9%. Switzerland was third with US$28.79 million, up 95.2% and accounting for 5.7%.
