How to change FANUC Memory Backup Battery?

FANUC Memory Backup Battery Replacement Method

Battery Function:

The biased data and system parameters are stored in the SRAM of the CNC unit. The SRAM data is powered by a memory backup battery installed in the CNC unit. This ensures that even when the main power is disconnected, the data is not lost.

When the battery voltage drops, the “BAT” warning will flash on the CNC display. Additionally, a battery alarm signal is output to the custom PMC. After the flashing display or alarm output, the battery should be replaced as soon as possible (it is recommended to replace the battery within one week). However, the actual usable time after the warning depends on the system configuration, and this may vary. A summary of the meanings of the FANUC system status bar.

If the battery voltage continues to drop, it will no longer supply power to the memory. If the CNC unit is powered on in this state, the contents of the memory will be lost, and a system alarm will occur. After replacing the battery, the entire memory should be cleared, and the data should be re-entered. Therefore, it is recommended to replace the battery once a year, regardless of whether there is a battery warning.

Battery Replacement Method:

Please prepare a lithium battery in advance (stock specification: A02B-0323-K102).

(1) Turn off the machine (CNC unit) power and wait for about 30 seconds before turning it back on.

(2) Remove the lithium battery from the back of the CNC unit (pinch the latch part of the lithium battery casing, disengage it from the battery compartment latch while pulling it toward you).

(3) Install the prepared new lithium battery (push the lithium battery into the battery compartment). Ensure that the latch is fully engaged in the slot.

Warning:

1. Incorrectly replacing the lithium battery may lead to explosion.

2. Do not replace the battery with one other than the specified lithium battery (A02B-0323-K102).

Notes:

1. The above operation should be completed within 30 minutes.

2. Be cautious: if the battery is detached for too long, the data saved in SRAM will be lost.

3. It is recommended to back up the SRAM data before replacing the battery. In case the data in SRAM is lost, recovery will be simpler. For details on how to back up and restore FANUC system SRAM.

4. The removed battery should be disposed of according to the industrial waste management regulations of the country and local government where the machine is located. Additionally, prior to disposal, apply tape or other insulation to prevent short-circuiting the terminals.
