How to Calibrate a Grinding Machine?

Calibrating a surface grinding machine is a meticulous process that requires patience and careful execution at every step. One critical aspect to keep in mind during this process is the amount of coolant used. This is crucial because a significant amount of heat is generated during machining. When correcting the worktable, a reduced amount of coolant should be used to ensure that the deformation of the worktable remains consistent between correction and actual machining.

Below is a detailed explanation of the method for correcting a surface grinding machine:
    1.    Clean the Worktable and Leveling Instrument
    •    Wipe the surface of the worktable thoroughly to remove any dust or debris.
    •    Ensure the bottom of the leveling instrument is also clean.
    2.    Leveling the Left Side of the Worktable
    •    Use the left and right handwheels to move the worktable to the left.
    •    Place the leveling instrument on the worktable in both left-right and front-back directions.
    •    Adjust the leveling screws gradually to bring the worktable to a level position.
    3.    Leveling the Right Side of the Worktable
    •    Move the worktable to the right using the left and right handwheels.
    •    Again, place the leveling instrument in both left-right and front-back directions.
    •    Adjust the leveling screws to achieve a level position.
    4.    Leveling the Front Side of the Worktable
    •    Move the worktable towards the operator using the front and back handwheels.
    •    Adjust until the worktable is level.
    5.    Leveling the Rear Side of the Worktable
    •    Move the worktable away from the operator using the front and back handwheels.
    •    Adjust until the worktable is level.
    6.    Check the Overall Leveling
    •    Ensure that the front-back and left-right level deviations of the worktable are within 0.02–0.03mm.
    7.    Final Grinding to Verify Leveling
    •    Perform a light grinding pass on the worktable surface.
    •    Check for any vibrations or irregular hand-feel.
    •    If no issues are found, the leveling process is complete.

In summary, special attention should be given to the dressing of the grinding wheel. Before dressing, the wheel should undergo a static balancing process to ensure stable operation. When grinding the surface of the worktable, the horizontal feed rate should be carefully controlled and slightly slowed down to avoid uneven corrections.
